Between the Lines

This contemporary circus show used the stages of a laundry cycle to respresent phases of emotional renewal. The all female cast explored themes of domesticity, the ideal woman, op shopping, and the road from worn and weary, to washed and ready to be worn again. The show blends aerial dance and poetry and was written backwards. The original cast came up with the concept and structure of the show, while a poet came on board later, to write the words. It all began when I had the idea of performing aerials on a washing line - just like the one most New Zealanders used to swing on in the backyard.

Between the Lines had it’s first outing in February 2014 as part of the Wellington Fringe. It has since been developed into an indoor theatre show, with it's debut sell out season at BATS theatre, in February 2015.
